Gouache on board and panel
Our invasion of Afghanistan brought rise to our well-worn
western myths of Eve and women viewed as descendants of the evil
temptress whose body needed to be shielded from sight.
The arrogance of the West focused on a limited scope of
observations. Traditional Western perceptions are seen through a
distorted filter molded from biblical fables and the
discrimination shown towards British married women of the 18th
century who rebelled. The women of Islam had these basic rights
in the 7th century. Do we as Westerners have a more progressive
vista of who we are? Why does the West emphasize outward beauty
both culturally as well as economically? Is it forward thinking
that informs our perspectives or our limited spirits that
isolate us?
Our prejudices prevented us from seeing the health of the world
could be fueled and fostered in an environment where each member
is significant.
